UNUSUAL WARNING ON MASSAGE CHAIR WINS TOP PRIZE IN M-LAW'S SIXTH ANNUAL WACKY WARNING LABEL CONTEST
Chair cautions: "Do not use massage chair without clothing... and, Never force any body part into the backrest area while the rollers are moving."
Southfield, MI: 1/8/03: A label on a robotic massage chair which warns, "Do
not use massage chair without clothing... and, Never force any body part into
the backrest area while the rollers are moving" has been identified as one of
the nation's wackiest warning labels by a consumer watchdog group.

The Wacky Warning Label Contest, now in it's sixth year, is sponsored by Michigan Lawsuit Abuse Watch, M-LAW, to reveal how lawsuits, and concern about lawsuits, have created a need for common sense warnings on many consumer products. The winning labels were selected from a list of M-LAW's finalists by listeners of the Dick Purtan show on Detroit radio station, WOMC-FM. The label on the popular Interactive Health massage chair featuring "Human Touch Technology" was discovered by a brother/sister team, Jim DeAngelis of Pleasanton, California and Carolyn DeAngelis of Royal Oak, Michigan. They receive $500 and a copy of a book about America's out-of-control legal system entitled, "The Case Against Lawyers," by the Emmy Award-winning host of Court TV's Catherine Crier Live. |

The second place label was found by James Haslem of North Royalton, Ohio on a snowblower which warns: "Do not use snowthrower on roof." Third place goes to Jeffrey Edmondson of New York, New York who found the following kitchen label: "Do not allow children to play in the dishwasher."
"Despite the humor in the wacky warning labels, the purpose of this contest is not to make fun of those who put funny warnings on products," said Robert B. Dorigo Jones, M-LAW president. "These are wonderful products. The contest was created to reveal that concern about potential frivolous lawsuits has become such a problem that common sense warnings are considered necessary."
M-LAW is a non-profit organization created to increase public awareness of how frivolous lawsuits affect the way Americans work and live and to promote changes that will restore common sense to the courts.
